Christmas apple salad, recipe step by step

This Christmas apple salad is very similar to the Waldorf salad, which contains chopped acid apples, nuts, celery, raisins and mayonnaise. However, this time we have replaced celery with pineapple and mayonnaise with sour cream. It is a different version but no less delicious. This salad for Christmas does not have sugar, because the pineapple being in syrup, already adds its sweetness and if we add sugar, it could be "inedible". As we do not want to ruin the recipe, we are going to make it with only 5 ingredients that I present below. Take note!

Ingredients

  • 8 green apples
  • ¼ cup walnuts
  • 4 slices of pineapple in syrup
  • ½ liter of sour cream
  • ½ cup of raisins

Elaboration step by step

  1. Wash the green apples very well and cut them into cubes. Do not peel them.
  2. Place them in a container with water and lemon so they do not rust.
  3. Chop the nuts very well and cut the pineapple slices into medium pieces.
  4. Place the cut apples with the sour cream, the chopped nuts, the pineapple and the raisins in a large bowl.
  5. Mix very well and enjoy this Christmas apple salad made with only 5 ingredients.

History and variants

This salad was created in New York for the first time in 1893 by the maître Oscar Tschirky of the Waldorf hotel, which was later called the Waldorf-Astoria hotel. Oscar has repeatedly claimed the creation of other dishes served at the hotel, such as Eggs Benedict . Although the original Waldorf salad recipe did not carry nuts, they were incorporated in the 20th century. Many of the variants that exist today, usually adapt to the tastes of each, so it is a very versatile Christmas salad .
